Sliding Gates

Sliding gates are a useful option when swing gates are impractical. This could be due to limited space behind the gate or uneven ground, which could hinder the opening of the gate. They are often used on industrial and commercial premises, but they can also be useful for private residences.

Many residences have driveways with an uphill slope, so a swing gate would not be the best option as the gate would drag along the ground when being opened. A sliding gate would be the ideal solution in this situation.

Sliding gates come in a variety of sizes and designs and are available in wood or metal, or a combination of both. The material chosen will depend on your practical needs, as well as the appearance that you want.

Metal gates are a common choice for industrial premises, but some customers may prefer the look of a wooden gate for a private residence. There are attractive designs available in both. Styles range from the traditional look to more contemporary designs.

Track or Cantilever?

Another aspect to consider is whether to choose a traditional floor track or a cantilever system. If a floor track is used, there will be wheels fitted at the base of the gate which will guide it along the track. If the ground is uneven, a cantilever system would be a better option. There would be no need to install a track along the opening, so the uneven ground would not be an issue. A tubular track would be fitted along the bottom of the gate, with the gate being supported by rollers.
